Description

Antique French steamer travel trunk chest made by Au Depart of Paris around 1910 probably. Wooden construction with russet canvas covering, bound with black steel and hard wood struts with brass studding. Brass locking catches on the front with working key (!) Steel handles on the end. Brass maker's plaque. Lovely old Paris travel label. The interior is lined with fabric and there are two trays inside. Condition is pretty good structurally: one of the trays has a loose joint (will try to repair..). Some reinforcing repairs inside the lid. The fabric inside is not in great nick, particularly in the tray bottoms; there's some rotten patches from old damp (dry now). Should be fairly easy to replace if wanted. Cosmetically there are lots of signs of wear: scuffs, scratches and marks etc, and the canvas is quite worn in places (see pics); all to the good really, we think.
